What is best for you
The From Lacquer to Gold workshop.
A 2 hours workshop in which you will put your fingers on the essence of Kintsugi, feel a sense of accomplishment and great satisfaction after you see how beautiful your ceramic becomes during this precise and specific process. You will of course bring home your own restored ceramic.
As a summary you'll go through:
Introduction to Kintsugi’s history, philosophy, techniques and materials
Hands-on practice applying the final lacquer layer and dust the metal/gold
Audience
This workshop is tailored for those who are enthusiastic about knowing more about Kintsugi. Whether you already have some experience or not, and as long as you are above 12 years old, you are welcome.
What is included
All traditional and Japan-sourced-only crafting materials and tools are provided during workshop, including: brushes, urushi lacquers, lacquer mix powders, sanding materials, and various powdered metals (such as silver, brass and more). Pure gold can be used for an additional premium
Ceramic: you will chose your preferred ready-to-process ceramic among a fine selection of antiques available on the day of the workshop
Premiums: all up to you !
Gold premium
While various metals are available at no additional cost, you can stil wish to use gold as a finish.
Gold market price has huge volatility and unpredictability, hence gold premium will be determined at the time of the workshop. It depends on the surface to be covered and gold market price. You'll be able to chose whether you want to use gold on-site as it will clearly be indicated on each ceramic to ensure full transparency.
Antique ceramic premium
A fine selection of "ready-to-process" antiques ceramics will be available on the workshop date and already included into the one time workshop fee.
For those interested into more exclusive ceramics, some will also be made available for an additional premium. Ceramic premium is calculated based on the ceramic acquisition price plus restoration costs, and will clearly be stated on each ceramic.
What to Bring
Everything is prepared so you can attend this workshop comfortably and well equipped.
Aprons will be provided, and I encourage you to wear long sleeves clothes you do not mind to stain. Lacquer will not go away after washing your clothes.
If you already have corrective / magnifying glasses, bring them along with you.
