Virginie Desroche

Passioned Kintsugi Artist

Specialized in ceramics restoration

Virginie

As far as I can remember, I always have been attracted to crafting activities.

I was born and raised in France and have rapidly been exposed to arts, practicing with my mother in her workshop at home, or on my own.

Throughout my life, I practiced painting, sculpting, ceramics, inlay on wood and many other kind of arts.

Life brought me to working in corporate environments. This attraction to arts thought has always remained burning in me.

Work brought me to Japan in 2008, long time ago. I felt in love with this country and also Kintsugi. When I moved to Singapore in 2012, I promised myself I would return.

I did. It was early 2020.

Deeply fascinated by Kintsugi and its profound history and philosophy, I decided to embark on a journey with this beautiful art as soon as I arrived.

Since then, I had the privilege of continuously learning these ancestral techniques from esteemed masters in Kyoto, Nara, and Tokyo.

As life was going by, I was feeling an increasing urge to truly bloom in my work, which brought me to make a life changing decision: to make my passion, Kintsugi, the center of my life, making it my daily work.

I keep enjoying the collection of damaged ceramics in antique shops and markets across Japan and giving them a second life, using exclusively the finest noble and natural materials, magnifying them. I aim for the highest standards in both the materials and the craftsmanship, ensuring that each piece is a unique work of art.

Through my artwork, on-demand restorations and tailored-made workshops, I humbly aspire to contribute to the conservation and perpetration of this magnificent Japanese fine art.

I am Virginie Desroche.

Welcome in Kintsugi’s authentic world.
