What is best for you

The Open studio.

Experience the timeless art of Kintsugi in my studio, where you will learn to restore your own ceramics using exclusively this ancestral technique. With only four participants maximum per session, you'll enjoy  personalized guidance while working with all-natural, high-quality and only Japan-sourced materials.

Each type of break require different number of steps and complexity to complete restoration can vary. The number of sessions you will need to repair your own ceramics will depend on this as well as your own rhythm.

I prepared a table (see below) as a guideline so you understand how many sessions you would need to restore your object. Keep in mind that it might be different when we discuss on your first session.

I encourage you to register to a 1 trial session before you sign up for more sessions.

Audience

The Open studio is ideal for those who are willing to repair their own ceramics and are ready to come over my studio several times.

Whether you already have some experience or not, and as long as you are above 18 years old, you are welcome.

Open studio plans

The number of sessions you will need to restore your ceramic will depends on several things:

• The break complexity: a chip will be faster to restore than a fully broken object

• Your own speed: some people may require more time than other to get to to the same step

• Your own definition of satisfaction: some prefer rough repairs while other want perfect finishes. It will definitely not take the same amount of time

As a guiding principle, it is possible to repair end-to-end a small chip within 5 sessions, and you'll need at least 10 for an object broken into several pieces. You can contact me and send me pictures if you need advice on which plan is best for your project

What is included

• All traditional crafting materials and tools, including brushes, urushi lacquers, lacquer mix powders, sanding materials, and various powdered metals such as silver, brass and much more, are provided during workshop. Gold can also be used for an additional premium (see Premiums section below).

• Drying storage is provided at no additional cost. This allows to keep your ceramics safe and drying in the proper environment before you bing them home.

• No registration nor storage fee; no surprise !

Premiums: all up to you !

Gold premium

While various metals are available at no additional cost, you can stil wish to use gold as a metal finish.

Due to the volatility of gold market price, a premium will be applied based on the surface to be covered and gold market price at the time of the gold application. You'll be able to choose whether you want to use gold on-site.

Antique ceramic premium

A fine selection of antiques ceramics will be available on the workshop date and already included into the one time workshop fee.

For those interested into more exclusive ceramics, some will also be made available for an additional premium. Ceramic premium is calculated based on the ceramic acquisition price plus restoration costs, and will clearly be stated on each ceramic.

What to Bring

• Your ceramics of couse. I recommend bringing a few of them with different types of breaks if you have,  so you can make the most of your sessions. If you do not have enough, you can buy pieces you like at the workshop.

• If you already have corrective / magnifying glasses, bring them along with you.

• While aprons are provided, I encourage you to wear long sleeves clothes you do not mind to stain. Lacquer will not go away.

• Everything else is available at the workshop so you can attend these workshops comfortably and professionally equipped.
